“I have found out that Gov. Jeb Bush will be announcing Monday,” the former mayoral candidate said on his show, “The Cats Roundtable.”
Catsimatidis, owner of the Gristedes supermarket chain and a top Republican fundraiser, described Bush as “a frontrunner” for president in 2016.
Bush, who’s been flirting with a run for weeks, is expected to make his announcement in Miami, Catsimatidis told The Post after his show.
Asked whether he regretted letting the cat out of the bag, Catsimatidis said: “I thought it was common knowledge.”
“I didn’t think I was spilling the beans,” he said. “I talked to one person and asked if it was common knowledge, and they said, ‘Yeah, it’s common knowledge.'”
The 2013 candidate for mayor wouldn’t say who told him about Bush’s announcement, but added: “If people don’t know about it, maybe I shouldn’t be talking about it.”
Bush did not return calls. Read more.
