(Time) - Former Florida Governor Jeb Bush is enjoying a slight lead over his likely Republican rivals for president, according to a new poll, but the nominating contest remains tight with no overwhelming front-runner.
The CNN/ORC survey found that 17% of Republicans and Republican-leaning independents support Bush in the primary race, while 12% back Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker. Kentucky Senator Rand Paul and Florida Senator Marco Rubio, who both recently launched their 2016 campaigns, each drew 11%. Only 4% said they back New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, who placed second in the poll as recently as last fall.
Bush also leads the field in several key attributes, according to the poll, including the candidate voters see as having the right experience and the best chance [LOL] to defeat the Democratic nominee. Read more.
Meanwhile Hillary Clinton continues to annihilate Bush in this same CNN poll, 56 percent to 39 percent. JEB! remains the "40 percent man." Not likely to change anytime soon. And for the Walker supporters, she destroys him by an even greater margin, 59 percent to 37 percent. The likely telling thing about all national general election polls between JEB! and the Hildabeast to date (illustrating a tread that will also likely continue given both candidates near universal name recognition) is that the Crown Prince never polls higher than the low 40s, while Hilldog's poll margins range widely from the mid 40s to mid 50s. Conditions ripe for a third option, but that's not going to help JEB!.
