In The Nation (complete with a jowly photo of Jeb looking just like a Thomas Nast plutocrat stereotype), Jeb Bush is increasing being seen by the Chamber of Commerce and Wall Street element of the GOP as their last ditch ‘savior,” meaning the one to save their party from being taken over by the Tea Party. You know, those folks who used to be taken in entirely by Atwater and Rove’s political con games, but now want to have a say in running things.
Will Jeb really run? According to CNN’s John King, “… I will tell you this: I spoke to several Republican fundraisers this week who got phone calls from Jeb Bush, the former Florida governor, who hasn’t said he’s going to run but is starting to ask some serious questions. So people think that at least he’s giving it a very serious look.”
And if he does run, and buys his party’s nomination with more than a little help from these friends, will the Tea Party fail in line, stay home, or openly revolt? Good questions that will take time to answer.
